Become a Member of Sunshine Cathedral

Becoming a Member of Sunshine Cathedral means sharing all the responsibilities and benefits of Cathedral life, and requires you be an active Friend or Partner for at least 6 months to be eligible. A Member supports the Cathedral message and mission with time, talent, and treasure. Members are filled with the joy of being part of something larger than themselves and being part of bringing hope and healing to people all over the world.

What Do I Get? And How Do I Become A Part Of Something Bigger?

  • Samaritan Institute courses at member rates
  • Access to Membership Course:
    After successfully completing the membership course and making a financial pledge of support, one may be accepted into membership.
  • GIVE TIME:
    Members are expected to attend Sunshine Cathedral worship and events regularly. Worship is our primary activity, but performance events, religious education opportunities, support groups, and community building activities all need people in attendance and whatever a member attends helps the Cathedral offer more to the community at large. Attendance can be on site or online. In the connected cyberworld of the 21stcentury, attendance is possible no matter where one may be physically be. The time we share together can be miraculous. In the Book of Proverbs we read, “You never know what a day might bring.”
  • GIVE TALENT:
    Sharing a skill or a physical effort. Talent could be vacuuming, stuffing envelopes, singing, ushering, gardening, serving as a lector, being a prayer chaplain, welcoming newcomers, or simply making a point to say encouraging things to people. Talent is whatever we do to bless others. Talent can even include “liking” Cathedral social media posts, sharing Cathedral posts on one’s own social media platform, or helping get the word out about Sunshine Cathedral events. Talent is doing what we love for the sake of love. The Apostle Paul wrote, “There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.”
  • GIVE TREASURE:
    Support the church financially, ideally, by pledging a percentage of one’s income to the ministries of the church. “Tithe” means a tenth (or 10%), but any percentage lovingly offered and faithfully maintained is faithful to the spirit of tithing. Whether less than or more than 10%, the consistency of giving and love that accompanies it are what matter most. Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

What Being a Member Means

  • Through collective prayer, sharing, and action we are able to make a bigger difference in many areas of common concern
  • In community we often feel more connected to divinity and more supported in our search to experience divinity more fully
  • Members can use worship space for weddings at a discounted rate.
  • Members are never charged for funerals (in fact, NO ONE is every charged for funerals, but non-members are asked to make a donation while members are not).
  • Members can vote at congregational meetings (all are welcome to attend but only members can vote).
  • Some leadership roles can be held by non-members, but other leadership roles require that one be a member.
  • Members who aren’t able to come to our Fort Lauderdale campus can ask for whatever on site attendees receive in person, such as, Spirit & Truth booklets or other brochures.
  • Members can ask for postage paid giving envelopes (at no charge).
  • Members are often offered discounts for ticketed events (including those that are offered online).
  • Members who worship with us virtually can ask for communion kits to be sent to them (at no cost) each month.
  • Non-local members can be put in contact with prayer chaplains and deacons for personalized pastoral care as needed.
