Year after year, as we grow in our personal lives we grow equally in our potential to make a difference in the lives of others. Our acts of caring, service to those in need, and advocacy for justice have touched thousands in our community and many more around the world. All of this is made possible through the progressive, positive, practical spirituality of Sunshine Cathedral MCC.
Yes. The Sunshine Cathedral MCC is recognized by the IRS as a qualified tax-exempt organization.
In January, each donor who gave $250 or more to the Sunshine Cathedral in the previous calendar year is provided an annual charitable gift receipt in accordance with IRS regulations. Receipts for amounts less than $250 are available on request.
How late in the year can I make a donation and receive a credit for this year’s taxes?
Per IRS regulations, contributions for each year must be received or postmarked by December 31 of that year in order to receive donation credit for that year’s tax purposes.
General Operating Fund: Donations to Sunshine Cathedral support its General Operating Fund. This fund makes possible the many day-to-day ministries and services of the church.
Special funds: Periodically, opportunities to designate a donation to a specific purpose become available. Examples of such purposes include the Building Fund and Capital Campaign; Christmas Eve Sponsorships; or special initiatives such as the MCC Global Justice Institute
To designate your contribution for such a specific purpose simply indicate the name of the purpose or initiative on the memo line of your check or on your offering envelope.
We want to avoid any criticism of the way we administer this liberal gift, “for we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the [Divine], but also in the eyes of others.” 2 Corinthians 8.20-21

Giving is not limited to simply our finances; it’s a lifestyle. When we live with the spirit of giving, when we give our community our tithes and our offerings, when we give to those in need, when we give of our time, our love, our resources, we are INSERT!

Your donations and proceeds from our 501(c)3 events go directly toward supporting our community and making a difference in the world. Our community support programs include:
Feeding those in need: In 2022, we fed 30,000 who were struggling with food insecurity. We provide nutritious meals, an open free of charge grocery “store”/pantry with no questions asked. We don’t need to know anyone’s specific circumstance, if food is needed we’re here. With your help, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those experiencing food insecurity.
Supporting our seniors: Through our LGBTQ+ Senior Center and with the help of our partner SunServe, we offer support to the seniors of the community through services like our Senior Day Care Center. This center provides a safe and supportive environment where seniors can participate in activities, socialize with their peers, and receive the care and support they need. With your support, we can continue to make a positive impact on the lives of our LGBTQ+ seniors.
Empowering sobriety and survival through Anonymous Groups: Sunshine Cathedral Square houses over 40 groups that meet weekly and daily to share experiences, hurdles, and motivate each other through the sobriety experience. This program provides a supportive community for those struggling with addiction and recovery, helping them to stay on the path to sobriety and leading fulfilling lives. With your donation, we can continue to provide this vital support to those in need.
Providing bereavement support: We offer bereavement support to those who have lost loved ones. This support can be incredibly important for those who are grieving, and with your generosity, we can continue to provide this essential service to those in need.
Health & HIV/AIDS: Your support helps us provide vital programming for those impacted by HIV/AIDS. We offer Spiritual Counseling to those diagnosed or living with HIV/AIDS. We offer testing on Square, and have program that educate and empower anti-stigma. With your help, we can continue to make a difference in their lives.
Advocating for women: Our Women’s Action Programs work to empower women and advocate for their rights. We offer support and resources to women who are facing challenges, and with your support, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of women in our community.
Supporting LGBTQ+ youth: Your donation helps us provide essential support and resources for LGBTQ+ youth through our Queer Youth programs. We facilitate emergency housing, food, counseling, education and more in a safe and supportive environment for these young people to explore their identity, connect with their peers, and receive the resources and support they need to lead fulfilling and successful lives. With your support, we can continue to make a positive impact on the lives of our LGBTQ+ youth.
LGBTQ+ Competency: We offer Queer Competency eduation to people and organizations of all sizes. Your support helps to underwrite this educational programming.
Advancing social justice: Your support helps us advance important social justice initiatives. We work to create a more equal and just world, and with your donation, we can continue to make progress toward that goal.
