Sunshine Cathedral Food Sharing Ministry

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. - Matthew 25:35 (NRSVUE)

Loaves and Fishes

The Loaves and Fishes Ministry at Sunshine Cathedral collects food from those members and friends who are able to give on the first Sunday of the month and other drive times such as Advent and Lent. For those who wish to participate, you simply bring non-perishable food items on the first Sunday and the Loaves and Fishes team members will unload the donations from your vehicle.

Brown Bag Lunch Program

The Brown Bag Lunch Program creates and distributes Brown Bag (non-perishable) lunches to various locations and organizations around Brown County. The Brown Bag Team meets early every Wednesday morning to assemble the bags and prepare them for delivery that same day. Between 550 – 650 Brown Bags are created and distributed each week and each bag contains some type of protein (tuna, peanut butter, beef sticks or jerky), crackers and/or chips, fruit cups or applesauce, and a beverage such as juice or water.

This team is led by the Rev. Kurt Kreiger and Rick Brown.

The Cathedral’s Food Pantry

Every week starting at 10:45am, approximately 125 grocery bags are made distributed which include pantry staples such as rice and beans, dry pasta and sauce, soups, canned meals, veggies, tuna, etc..

During our Wednesday distribution, Food Pantry clients have the opportunity to select from fresh produce, bread and pastries, meat, and other miscellaneous items. Donations are received weekly from the United Way’s Project Lifeline, Feeding South Florida, and other donors who contribute generously to our efforts to ensure that no one in our area needs to worry about their next meal.

The Sunshine Cathedral Food Pantry is unique in that we never request intrusive financial information from our clients. If anyone is hungry and in need of food, we will help.

The Food Pantry Team is led by Mike Bosco, Ron Couture, and Deacon Lydya Chapman.
