Sunshine Cathedral Reopening

Sunshine Cathedral Member and Friends — welcome back to worship under the “new normal”. Worship as we once experienced at Sunshine Cathedral is no longer available for the time being due to COVID-19.

As we prepare to welcome you back to worship at Sunshine Cathedral, we are able to do so because of the the Center for Disease Control Guidelines & Broward County – City of Fort Lauderdael Reopening Plan.

BROWARD COUNTY ENTERS PHASE 1
There has been a downward trajectory of flu-like illness reported for five weeks, much more than the 14-day period suggested by the federal government.

There has been a downward trajectory of COVID-like syndromic cases reported for five weeks, much more than the 14-day period suggested by the federal government.

There has been a downward trajectory of positive tests as a percent of total tests for four weeks, much more than the 14-day period suggested by the federal government. The week of April 5 showed 13.4% positive results-to-total-tests compared to 3.8% the week of May 16.

The hospital system in Broward County is able to treat all patients without crisis care.

Robust testing program is in place, and the county has launched a program to provide antibody testing.

Here is what you need to know in order to return to worship at Sunshine Cathedral. These guidelines will be strictly enforced.

Please be mindful of this information:
Elderly, as defined for COVID-19, and other at-risk individuals are asked to remain home and participate through online options.

If you are ill, please remain home.

Arriving and Parking
We are asking everyone to please utilize the paved parking lots and not park on of the any grass area. When you park, please leave one parking space between each car. If you have to park on the grass, please observe the same parking spacing distance.

Preparing for Worship
As noted from the City & County under Phase 1 Reopening: Places of worship should limit the size of the assembly to be no more than 50% of capacity, which is in line with mandatory restrictions set for restaurants and other businesses. Sunshine Cathedral will reopen at 25% of our seating capacity which means only 125 seats will be opening for worshippers.

In order to attend the 9AM or 10:30AM service, you must make a reservation and select your seat through the online reservation link on our website. No one will be able to enter the worship space without a reservation. No exceptions. This is necessary to maintain safe distancing. We don’t enjoy enforcing these limitations, but they are necessary during this public health challenge.

Please plan to arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the service you wish to attend.

The below applies for both services (9 am and 10:30 am)
All attendees must wear a mask while you are at Sunshine Cathedral (bring you own).

All attendees must enter through the front entrance of the worship center. Please be mindful of social distancing as you wait to enter the worship center. Side door will only be open to those with accessibility needs. No exceptions.

At the front entrance, attendees must provide their name to the Greeter in order to enter so reservation can be confirmed; no substitutions will be permitted.

Individuals will be provided with hand sanitizer.

Individuals will be given a plastic bag/Worship Package that will contain the following: a SunBurst, Prayer Card, Offering Envelope and a self-serve Communion Kit. Please be sure to take the package with you when you leave or place it in the trash receptitcal.

Individuals will be escorted to their assigned seat(s).

During the worship the following must be observed:
Once inside the worship center individuals are asked to respect social distancing.

There will be no coming forward for an Altar Call (asperges will replace anointing).

There will be be no physical touching of anyone outside of your family for the Sign of Peace.

There will be no coming forward for Communion and Blessing (communion will be received in your seats).

Following the closing hymn, the Greeter will dismiss you row by row to exist through the south side doorway. Please do not attempt to exit through the front entrance. You will be asked to exist through the south side doorway.

A few other things to be aware of:
The water fountain in the narthex will not be available for use. Small water bottles will be available.

Bathrooms will be only available for use one person at a time . An attendant will wipe down the bathroom after each individual.

Out of respect for social distancing, Staff will not be able to connect with you following the worship service.

For those attending the 9AM service, we need you exit the Worship Center as quickly as possible so that we might wipe down the Worship Center to prepare for the 10:30AM service.

There will be no gathering in the social hall after services.
