The Wisdom of Voltaire
“All is a miracle. The stupendous order of nature, the revolution of a hundred million worlds around a million stars, the activity of light, the life of all animals, all are grand and perpetual miracles.”
The Wisdom of Louise Hay
“The Universe totally supports every thought you choose to think and to believe. You have unlimited choices about what to think. Choose balance, harmony, and peace and express it in your life.”
John 5.1-9 (Good News Translation)
… Jesus went to Jerusalem for a religious festival. Near the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem there is a pool with five porches…it is called [Bethesda]. A large crowd of sick people were lying on the porches—the blind, the lame, and the paralyzed. A man was there who had been sick for thirty-eight years. Jesus saw him lying there, and he knew that the man had been sick for such a long time; so he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
The sick man answered, “Sir, I don’t have anyone here to put me in the pool when the water is stirred up; while I am trying to get in, somebody else gets there first.”
Jesus said to him, “Get up, pick up your mat, and walk.” Immediately the man got well; he picked up his mat and started walking.
The day this happened was a Sabbath.

The Wisdom of Masaharu Taniguchi
“Verily, that which is indestructible is your real self.
Verily, that which is deathless is your real self.
Verily, that which fills the whole universe is your real self.”
Acts 1.1-9 (International Children’s Bible)
The first book I, [Luke], wrote was about everything that Jesus did and taught. I wrote about the whole life of Jesus, from the beginning until the day he was taken up into heaven. Before this, Jesus talked to the apostles he had chosen. With the help of the holy Spirit, Jesus told them what they should do. After his death, he showed himself to them and proved in many ways that he was alive. The apostles saw Jesus during the 40 days after he was raised from death. He spoke to them about the [realm] of God. Once when he was eating with them, he told them not to leave Jerusalem. He said, “[God] has made you a promise which I told you about before. Wait here to receive this promise. John baptized people with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the holy Spirit.”
The apostles were all together. They asked Jesus, “Lord, are you at this time going to give the kingdom back to Israel?”
Jesus said to them, “[God] is the only One who has the authority to decide dates and times. These things are not for you to know. But the holy Spirit will come to you. Then you will receive power. You will be my witnesses—in Jerusalem, in all of Judea, in Samaria, and in every part of the world.”
After he said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up. A cloud hid him from their sight.

The Wisdom of Thich Nhat Hanh
“Jesus healed whatever he touched. With the holy Spirit in him, his power as a healer transformed many people…
I [feel] that all of us also have the seed of the holy Spirit in us, the capacity of healing, transforming, and loving.”
The Wisdom of the Sikhs
“God is concealed in every heart.”
John 14.16-17 (Easy to Read Version)
…[the Creator] will give you another Helper to be with you forever. The Helper is the Spirit of truth…[This helpful Power] lives with you…in you.
Acts 2.1-4 (Easy to Read Version)
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a noise came from heaven. It sounded like a strong wind blowing. This noise filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw something that looked like flames of fire. The flames were separated and stood over each person there. They were all filled with the holy Spirit, and they began to speak different languages. The holy Spirit was giving them the power to do this.

The Wisdom of Emma Curtis Hopkins
“God is the only Substance there is in the universe; and God is Spirit. Then Spirit is all there is anywhere, and whatever is not of Spirit is nowhere, has no real existence, is but a figment…It is as if a shadow tried to prove itself something substantial.”
The Wisdom of U.S. Anderson
“The…Self is timeless and eternal. It is the self of the universe and it is the self of each of us…It was never born and it will never die. It enters into each of its creations and becomes that creation…It is the eternal stuff that occupies all space and time…”
All that God has is mine…
Psalm 139.7-12 (The Message)
Is there any place I can go to avoid your Spirit?
to be out of your sight?
If I climb to the sky, you’re there!
If I go underground, you’re there!
If I flew on morning’s wings
to the far western horizon…You’re already there waiting!
Then I said to myself, “Oh, [God] even sees me in the dark!
At night I’m immersed in the light!”
It’s a fact: darkness isn’t dark to you;
night and day, darkness and light, they’re all the same to you.
The Wisdom of Carter Heyward
“God is…a relational power – not a person.
…Neither God nor Jesus nor the rest of us can be known and loved in authoritarian – non-mutual relation. As a system of social control, patriarchy is a system of non-mutual relation. For this reason, love and patriarchy are incompatible. Love is mutual relation…
In the beginning and in the end, God is a relation:
God is not a self-contained entity or a self-absorbed being.
God is love – the constant, immediate yearning and effort to make mutuality incarnate throughout the cosmos.
God is the commitment, against all odds, to justice with compassion.
God is the Spirit celebrating mutuality, the Energy generating justice, the Root of compassion, the Power in the yearning, the effort, and the commitment.
God is radically loving community, every unfolding, changing, living, dying, and yet ever-living. In a literal sense – embodied, sensual, transformative – God is holy communion.”
Luke 7.1-10 (Modern English Version)
When [Jesus] had completed all his words in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum. Now a centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick and ready to die. When he heard of Jesus, he sent the elders of the [Jewish community] to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. When they came to Jesus, they asked him earnestly, saying, “You should do this for him for he is worthy, for he loves our nation, and he has built us a synagogue.” So Jesus went with them.
When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. Likewise, I did not think myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed…
When Jesus heard these words, he marveled at him, and turned and said to the people who followed him, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith…Then those who were sent, returning to the house, found the servant well who had been sick.
