The Wisdom of Matthew Fox
Evil is the shadow of angel. Just as there are angels of light, support, guidance, healing and defense, so we have experiences of shadow angels. And we have names for them: racism, sexism, homophobia are all demons – but they’re not out there.
The Gospel According to Mark (1.21-28)
21They went to Capernaum; and when the sabbath came, Jesus entered the synagogue and taught. 22They were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. 23Just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, 24and he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.” 25But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” 26And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.27They were all amazed, and they kept on asking one another, “What is this? A new teaching—with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” 28At once his fame began to spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee.
The Wisdom of Oprah Winfrey
“What God intended for you goes far beyond anything you can imagine.”
The Wisdom of William Faulkner
“Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Do not bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.”
The Prophet Isaiah (40.28-31)
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The INFINITE is the everlasting God, the Creator of the entire earth. God does not faint or grow weary; God’s understanding is unsearchable. God gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the DIVINE PRESENCE shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
The Tale of Daniel (7.13-14)
I saw in the night visions, and there was one like a human being coming with the clouds of heaven. He came to and was presented before the Ancient of Days. There was given to that One dominion, and glory, and a realm, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away nor ever be destroyed.
The Gospel According to Mark (9.2, 7, 9-10)
Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them…Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!” As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them to tell no one about what they had experienced, until after the Human One had risen from the dead. So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead could mean.

The Prophet Isaiah (58.6-8)
Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin? Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up quickly; your vindicator shall go before you, the glory of the DIVINE PRESENCE shall be your rear guard.
The Wisdom of Aberjhani
“Rainbows introduce us to reflections of different beautiful possibilities so we never forget that pain and grief are not the final options in life.”
An Irish Blessing
“May God give you…For every storm a rainbow, for every tear a smile, for every care a promise and a blessing in each trial; for every problem life sends, a faithful friend to share, for ever sigh a sweet song and an answer for each prayer.”
The Wisdom of the Torah (Genesis 9.8-10, 12-16)
God said to Noah…”As for me, I am establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you, and with every living creature that is with you…” God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember my everlasting covenant with every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
