2018 Civil Rights Bus Tour

Sunshine Cathedral’s second annual Civil Rights Bus Tour takes place from April 3rd through the 7th. In order to visit important sites at Jackson, Birmingham, Memphis, Little Rock and New Orleans, this year’s tour begins and ends in New Orleans. We invite you to make plans to meet us in the Big Easy for this incredible 4 day journey that includes:

The newly opened Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, the first of its kind in the state.

Overnight at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Birmingham.

16th Street Baptist Church, site of 1963 Birmingham bombing that killed four young girls.

Birmingham’s Civil Rights Institute.

National Civil Rights Museum at the site of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis where Dr. King was shot and killed.

A BBQ dinner is included at one of the top BBQ spots in Memphis!

Overnight at the La Quinta Inn Downtown Hotel and Conference Center in Little Rock.

Central High School, where 9 courageous students placed themselves on the frontlines of the battle to desegregate public schools.

Explore the William J. Clinton Presidential Library & Museum on your own.

Two free evenings to enjoy New Orleans on your own.

Two nights accommodation at the Jung Hotel near the French Quarter.

Tour of the quintessential antebellum sugar baron’s estate, the beautiful Houmas House Plantation, with a delicious buffet lunch included at the estate’s Café Burnside.

After lunch at Houmas House, we will tour the Whitney Plantation, the only sugar baron estate dedicated to telling the story of antebellum plantation life from the perspective of enslaved African Americans. A powerful experience!

Saturday morning check out of the hotel and the tour is officially ended.
